We are Atticus & Charlie: Joe, Gwen and Glen
You may ask, "Who and what is Atticus and Charlie?" Here's our story. Our mission is to be the go-to destination for "Gifts for Music Lovers." No longer do you need to go from store-to-store or site-to-site. With one stop you can find jewelry, toys, clothing, home decor, musical instruments and more.
We hope you will be entertained, informed and help you express your love of music.
Some music lovers are singers or instrumentalists or performers and some just love to listen to music.
Here are our stories.
I'm Glen. I’m a music lover!
Here is the short version of how that happened. On a cold Spring day, I entered this world in the Rocky Mountain town of Deer Lodge, Montana. I started playing saxophone in the fifth grade as my first formal music training. Day after day I lugged that tenor sax home, so I could practice. I was tenacious and never gave up at Powell County High School, Evangel College or Seattle Pacific University.
After graduating with a degree in music theory and literature and music education, I taught in Garden City, Michigan. Later, I was recruited to be a national music consultant for the Silver Burdett Company. I did graduate work at The University of Michigan in music education with minors in theory and voice performance. Obviously, I was hooked and a committed musician.
Building a music store was a natural next step for me after retiring from teaching. My responsibilities with Atticus & Charlie are to manage the back of the store and marketing and advertising.
Hello! I'm Gwen and I LOVE music!
Music has been a part of my life as long as I can remember; listening to Big Bands, Christmas songs and radio on my parents' stereo where I grew up in Choteau, Montana. My parents used to admonish me for humming during meals. One night during dinner, my Dad said, "Would you like to take voice lessons? At Choteau High School and Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota I continued to be involved in music. I am the shopper for Atticus & Charlie and write the titles and descriptions. If you hear someone humming it's probably me.
I'm Joe. I love music of all kinds.
I came to Atticus & Charlie from a different background. I don’t play an instrument or sing in a choir, but I listen to music all the time. I grew up on a dairy farm in Benson, Minnesota. While milking cows I always had music on—for the cows and me. At Benson High School and at Concordia College, in Moorhead, Minnesota, in addition to my studies, I played football and was always listening to music. Today, in my car or shop, you will always hear music playing. I’m a music lover.
What I bring to Atticus & Charlie is a background in finance and policy. I recently retired from public education as a teacher, coach, school superintendent and Director of Policy Services for school boards across the state of Montana.
